Redfall will see four players take on a mix of vampires in the seemingly quiet and titular town of Redfall. It’ll be somewhat exclusive too, coming on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S and Windows PC, as well as Xbox Game Pass on day one of its launch; sorry, PS5 fans. While we expect to get plenty of fresh information in the coming months, for now, here’s everything we currently know about Redfall.
Redfall release date
Redfall was slated to be released summer 2022, but it has since been delayed by Bethesda and Arkane. Due to wanting more time to polish the game, Redfall will now be launched in the first half of 2023, though Bethesda didn’t narrow down the date much further than that. Redfall was shown off at the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase 2022,with a new trailer showing off game footage. This would suggest the game is rather deep into its development and that it could arrive sooner in 2023 than later.
Redfall trailer
Redfall’s latest trailer shows off the actual game in action, detailing how it can be played solo or with a team of fellow players.
Redfall gameplay
As showcased by the first gameplay trailer, Redfall is a first-person “open-world co-op shooter." And it looks like it’ll blend Left 4 Dead survival shooter action with a narrative that sees players, explore whet went wrong with the island of Redfall. Players will be able to do this by themselves or with a group of fellow players. And each of the characters payer will be able to step into have a range of skills and abilities, some of which seem plucked out of Dishonored. Oh, expect a heck of a lot of guns too, which will probably be upgradeable and customizable. Players will need these guns, gadgets and powers as they will be up against a range of enemies, from standard human cultists to fast and dangerous vampires. As such, this won’t be another Back 4 Blood clone, but something that’s likely to be quite different with the scope to sneak past problematic areas rather than go in guns blazing.
Redfall characters
Redfall’s trailer introduces us to four playable heroes: Devinder Crousley, Layla Ellison, Jacob Boyer, and Remi De La Rosa. Each character will have their own personality and their own abilities on the battlefield. These unique powers include Remi being able to control a robot companion, and Layla having telekinetic powers. It seems that each character will play substantially different from the rest, and finding out which one suits your playstyle will be a big part of the fun. We’ve also got a look at the various villains of Redfall. These include uber-powerful vampires, but also a human cult that worships the creatures of the night. Our heroic foursome will have to do battle with both in order to survive till dawn. The Redfall website fills in some of the blanks when it comes to the game’s setting as well. Redfall is set in a world where a science experiment gone wrong accidentally created vampires. These creatures are continuing to evolve as well, so expect multiple classes of bloodsuckers hunting you down. These former humans have managed to isolate the island and have blocked out the sun leading to never-ending darkness in a small Massachusetts town. It’ll be up to you, and your co-op companions, to prevent the titular Redfall from being bled dry.
Redfall Xbox and PC exclusivity
In 2020, Microsoft purchased ZeniMax, Bethesda’s parent company. Arkane is one of Bethesda’s studios, so the developer is now also owned by Microsoft. While Arkane’s next game, Deathloop, is actually a timed PS5 exclusive (that exclusivity deal was signed before Microsoft’s acquisition), Redfall will not be coming to Sony’s latest games console. Redfall is confirmed to be exclusive to Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.
Redfall outlook
There’s definitely not a shortage of co-op shooters in the pipeline, but Redfall looks like it could stand out. Thanks to its quirky characters and its fairly refreshing enemy types, Redfall has an awful lot going for it. Arkane is among the industry’s most beloved developers, so with its pedigree, it’s fair to say that expectations for Redfall are high. Hopefully over the next twelve months, as we get closer to Redfall’s summer release date, we see plenty more of this upcoming game.
