We didn’t just pull that number out of thin air. Rumors of an iPhone 14 Pro price hike have been circulating since the spring, with analysts settling on a $100 bump over the $999 starting price of the iPhone 13 Pro. The latest report claiming rising iPhone costs sounds particularly convincing — Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives called the $100 Pro model price increase “likely” in a research note last week on Apple’s upcoming phones....

But until the iPhone 13 Pro, Apple has kept its iPhones stuck at 60Hz, while the likes of Samsung, OnePlus, Xiaomi and more adopted 90Hz or faster screens. And despite my hopes, the standard iPhone 14 could sport a 60Hz display. TSMC, which makes the Apple A-series processors which power the company’s iPhones, has begun mass production of its new 3-nanometer hardware, according to Bloomberg (opens in new tab). And the new silicon should be a lot more power efficient than its predecessors. “Mass production of 3-nanometer chips is the fruit of decades-long collaboration with the local supply chain,” said TSMC Chairman Mark Liu, promising both an unspecified performance boost and a 35% improvement to efficiency over the company’s 5nm chips....

Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo (opens in new tab) just cut his expected SE 2022 sales by 10 million units, around a third of his first prediction. He believes Apple will sell a healthy 15 - 20 million iPhone SEs, but that’s still a big drop, and Kuo says that “demand is lower than expected.” This has been backed up by a Nikkei Asia report that claims Apple’s cutting its iPhone SE output for next quarter by around 20% (approximately 2 million units), along with a cut of 10 million units for AirPods production....
