Multiple reports have already claimed that the standard iPhone 14 model and a new iPhone 14 Max version will not get new chipsets, instead using retooled A15 Bionic silicon featured in the current iPhone 13 Pro models. The A16 Bionic, Apple’s next likely chipset, would instead be reserved for the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. The iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max both gained 120Hz refresh rates when Apple introduced those two models last fall. The screens are adaptive, ramping up to 120Hz when on-screen activity would benefit from the faster refresh rate (like, when you scroll through a web page) and scale down to 10Hz when things are more static. The dynamic refresh rate allows phones to reap the benefits of a fast-refreshing display while preserving some battery life....

There was already evidence of always-on display support in iOS 16, but now 9to5Mac has found an important piece of additional evidence. The iOS 16 wallpapers all offer a new “Sleep” state for the new iOS 16 wallpapers, which darkens and desaturates the regular image. This activates when you turn off the screen by locking the phone. We’ve seen Apple take a similar approach with the AOD on the Apple Watch 7 and previous watches, so it makes sense that Apple would copy this for the iPhone 14....
