Four titles released in the last couple of months — Wednesday, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Stranger Things 4 part 1 and Squid Game — set all-time records at Netflix. All but Dahmer recorded 1 billion-plus hours in their first 28 days. But at the same time, Netflix’s 2022 has been troubled, to put it lightly. One minute they’re losing subscribers overall for the first time in ages, the next they’re so desperate for more cash they’re cracking down on account-sharing....

This news has been warmly received by a surprisingly vocal section of the internet, with some quick to suggest this is just the start of a long-overdue downfall. While many of Netflix’s current woes do seem to be of the streaming service’s own making (canceling shows that made fans yell “too soon!), there are also mitigating factors making the situation look quite a bit worse than it truly is. Despite the apparent turmoil that Netflix seems to be enduring right now, it’s still a service I’ll be keeping in my streaming portfolio....

It revolutionized the entertainment media landscape and completely upended the TV industry. Most media corporations have or are planning to introduce their own streaming services in order to compete. Netflix also changed the game when it comes to content, pouring millions of dollars into producing original shows and movies....

The Game Pass apps on PC and mobile currently do a decent job of delivering this information. In that sense, the Windows 11 widget could seem redundant. But if you frequently use widgets (we’re sure these folks exist), having a dedicated PC Game Pass widget that launches the Xbox app should be a nice addition. Microsoft says it’s also going to make it easier to sign in to your profile and dive back into recently played games....

If you’re not familiar with Nothing, it’s the oddly named follow-up act for Pei, who co-founded Chinese phone maker OnePlus. Nothing’s first handset, the Nothing Phone (1), debuted earlier this year, but not in the U.S. — instead, the phone shipped in Asia, the Middle East and Europe. But that could be changing. Pei, in an interview with CNBC (opens in new tab), says the company is in “early conversations” with U....

Those weird lights are in fact called the “glyph interface,” and it’s a lighting system made of over 900 LEDs. These sync with your notification and ring tones, and can be customized for different apps or contacts. They can also indicate that you’re using wireless or reverse wireless charging or be turned on as a strangely-shaped flashlight. We’re also presuming these lights can be used to take photos in low light without engaging the flash....

Developer Blizzard has announced that the Overwatch 2 beta will start on June 28, which is in less than two weeks. Sony communicated information about Accolades’ impending demise on a PlayStation support page entitled “Important notices regarding PlayStation products and services (opens in new tab).” Under a section called “Discontinued PlayStation apps, features and services,” the first entry is about “Accolades on PS5 consoles.” “In the fall of 2022, the Accolades feature on PlayStation 5 will no longer be supported,” it reads. “The feature hasn’t seen the level of usage we anticipated, so we are refocusing our efforts....

To make the 7S Pro, RedMagic added a Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 chip to its established combo of physical fan cooling, capacitive triggers, and a big screen with an under-display camera. This first bit of free Roku channels news comes from Variety (opens in new tab), which reports that (unlike other channels on The Roku Channel) WMX Pop, WMX Rock and WMX Hip-Hop are not going to be found anywhere else.
